Broncos add another defensive back; place Henningsen on waived/injured list

The Broncos brought another cornerback into their fold on Sunday, signing defender Gregory Junior, who was most recently with the Green Bay Packers before being waived on Aug. 4.

Junior, a Ouachita Baptist product, has 10 games of regular-season experience, all of which came in 2022 and 2023. Nine of his 10 games of action came in his rookie season of 2022, when he was a sixth-round pick. During those seasons, he played 111 defensive snaps and the same number of special-teams snaps.

Since being waived by the Jaguars during last year’s preseason, Junior has hopscotched to the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans and Green Bay before landing in Denver. He was on the Colts and Texans practice squads last year.

The corresponding move by the Broncos.  to make room for Junior involved removing defensive lineman  Matt Henningsen from the roster by placing him on the waived/injured list.

Henningsen suffered a torn Achilles tendon during the joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday. He spent all of last season on the practice squad after playing all 34 games in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The Wisconsin product broke into the NFL as a sixth-round pick in Denver’s 2022 draft class. He will have surgery to repair the Achilles tear.
