With the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs officially in the rearview mirror after the Florida Panthers went back-to-back and won another Cup, all eyes are now focused on the 2025-26 NHL season, one that will be very important for the Colorado Avalanche in particular.
The Avalanche are once again one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup next season, the seventh consecutive year that the oddsmakers have had them in the top five in the preseason, with some bookmakers having them as the favorite over Florida. For fans looking to see their team in action for the first time since they choked away a two-goal lead in Game 7 of the opening round of the playoffs, they finally got their answer, as the organization announced its schedule for the 2025 preseason.

The six-game stretch consists of two matchups against the Utah Mammoth (that name sound familiar to anyone?), two against the Vegas Golden Knights and two against Mikko Rantanen and the Dallas Stars. The games against Utah will be split squad contests, with one matchup scheduled to take place in Ball Arena and the other at a location in Denver that is still to be determined. Those games will be followed by two contests at Ball and two on the road.
For those fans who are wondering why the Avs are playing three teams who they see so often in the regular season and the playoffs, it’s simply because these are the three closest teams to the Avalanche, so the travel aspect is as easy as can be for games that don’t mean a whole lot. Colorado played these three teams last season, and has played Vegas and Dallas in every single preseason since 2021 when it was reintroduced after the pandemic.
While the preseason games have no effect on the regular season, the Avalanche are hoping for a much better run in 2025 after an abysmal start to the year in 2024. Even though the top guns in Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar only appeared in one game, the team only scored 12 goals while letting in 22 on the other end, and the slow start carried into the regular season as Colorado started 0-4.
Preseason action kicks off in September, but the Avalanche still have the draft and free agency in front of them, which start on June 27 and July 1, respectively.
