Rockies bats go silent as two-game winning streak ends in 4-0 loss

ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: San Francisco starter Robbie Ray mowed down Colorado’s lineup, limiting the Rox to two hits and two walks over seven innings, and Hayden Birdsong finished the job with two scoreless innings in relief to halt the Rockies’ brief winning streak at two games by a 4-0 count at Oracle Park on Friday night.

Opportunities were scarce for Colorado, which got just one runner into scoring position. Hunter Goodman came to the plate with two outs and two on in the sixth inning, but hit a grounder to third base, ending what proved to be Colorado’s only scoring threat.

Goodman, Nick Martini and Jordan Beck were the only Rox to record hits as Colorado fell to 6-26.

ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT

The undoing of Antonio Senzatela was the second inning, when he allowed Wilmer Flores, Heliot Ramos and LaMonte Wade Jr. to reach base without recording an out.

By the time Senzatela coaxed a groundout to first base for the second out of the inning, a walk and a wild pitch had added to the damage, and three runs were on the scoreboard, putting the Rox into catch-up mode.

One inning later, Matt Chapman turned on a hanging slider and crushed it 418 feet over the left-field wall, adding another run to San Francisco’s lead.

Senzatela went five innings, allowing seven hits and four runs, all earned. He struck out four and walked two as he dropped to 1-5.

BITS AND PIECES

IT WAS DECIDED FOR THE ROCKIES WHEN: Alan Trejo hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end a brief burst of hope in the eighth inning.

ROCKIES NUMBER TO NOTE: 5 — Number of players in Colorado’s starting lineup Friday night who have a sub-.600 OPS so far this season. That quintet — Ryan McMahon, Michael Toglia, Sean Bouchard, Jacob Stallings and Trejo — went a collective 0-for-14 with six strikeouts Friday.
