Broncos standout defensive lineman seeking lucrative contract extension

The Denver Broncos had one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL in 2024, as the Broncos became the 15th team in NFL history to record at least 63 sacks in a single season. In his second season with the Broncos, defensive lineman Zach Allen had a phenomenal season, posting 8.5 sacks and 61 total tackles. With one year left on his current contract, talks have now shifted to his next contract.

The 27-year-old signed a three year, $45.75 million contract with Denver in the 2023 offseason. He is very deserving of an even more lucrative contract than his last, but a contract near $25 million annually would make him one of the highest paid defensive linemen in the entire league. Only two players make more than $25 million, Kansas City’s Chris Jones ($31.75 million) and Las Vegas’s Christian Wilkins ($27.5 million).

The tape doesn’t lie. He gives opposing offensive linemen nightmares on every snap. He’s one of the most efficient pass rushers in the NFL, solid as a run stopper and should be at the top of George Paton’s list of players to re-sign.

Denver currently has two players who have a cap hit of at least $20 million in 2026 (the first year an Allen extension would kick in), Quinn Meinerz and Mike McGlinchey. However, with other extensions from Patrick Surtain II and Garrett Bolles kicking in soon, Paton will have to make sure to balance the Broncos’ spending to not be too top-heavy.

Per Spotrac, Allen’s market value is estimated to be $22.1 million. While that number is off from what he’s seeking, the difference is not much by any means, and Paton should be able to find a number to keep him in the orange and blue.
