A Hall of Fame QB has this advice for Russell Wilson: ‘Listen to Sean Payton’

PHOENIX — Terry Bradshaw isn’t sold on Russell Wilson.

“I don’t know Russell. I don’t know him at all. I’ve heard — not good things,” the longtime FOX NFL Sunday analyst and Hall-of-Fame quarterback said Tuesday. “But I don’t know him. So, I’m not going to be a part of that jump-on-the-bandwagon thing.”

But Bradshaw  does know Sean Payton, his FOX Sports co-worker and newly-minted Broncos head coach.

And from one quarterback to another, Bradshaw knows what Wilson should do now that he has Payton in his midst:

“Listen to Sean Payton. He had a guy your size that was smart and ran that offense,” Bradshaw said, referring to Drew Brees. And if you’ll study this offense under Payton, he’ll take you to that level you want to be at.”

Even though it should mean giving up some of the comforts and accommodations made to Wilson by the Broncos when they acquired him.

The personal position coach being given the run of the building? That’s out, as Payton himself said Monday.

“These owners that give these guys their own [office] and their own training staff — oh, man,” Bradshaw lamented, putting his head in his hand. “Just to get a guy to sign for $250 million?”

As Bradshaw proclaimed of his co-worker, Payton is “not gonna allow that!”

“I know Sean Payton,” Bradshaw said. “I can guarantee you — that locker’s history. That private office, it’s history. But if he’ll listen to him, Sean Payton, he can coach a quarterback.

“And Russell’s gotta be coached. He’s gonna have to be coached. He’s gonna have to listen and follow orders and follow the offense, and he’ll be fine. He’ll be back to being Wilson.”

And if that happens, there’s plenty of time for Wilson to get it right — although Bradshaw misstated Wilson’s age as 33, when the QB turned 34 last season.

“That’s young. He’s got what, four or five more years in him if he doesn’t get hurt,” Bradshaw said.

And that’s enough for Wilson to re-acquire his luster and get back to where Bradshaw resides — the Gold Jacket club. But in the old ex-QB’s eyes, that only happens if he listens to Payton.
