Broncos to hire longtime Sean Payton player to coach offensive line

Feb 6, 2023, 11:28 AM

Denver has their man to rebuild the Broncos upfront, Sean Payton is expected to bring in Zach Strief to coach the offensive line, according to NFL Network.

Strief played 12 seasons for the New Orleans Saints and Payton, after being selected in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Northwestern. The 6-foot-7 guard turned right tackle became a captain later in his career and was the team’s NFLPA rep.

Strief played 158 games for his one and only team, the Saints. He retired after the 2017 season and the former first-team All-Pro became the team’s assistant offensive line coach in 2021.

Strief is also a former broadcaster, spending some time between playing and coaching in the New Orleans booth. So Payton goes with one broadcaster over another, Mark Schlereth.
