Mark Schlereth says he’d be interested in coaching Broncos offensive line

You’ve loved listening to Mark Schlereth for years on 104.3 The Fan.
You also loved watching him win a couple Super Bowls for the Broncos as a ferocious offensive lineman in the late 1990s.
But how about this one? Mark Schlereth: Denver Broncos offensive line coach.
“Stink” says he’d be interested in the job and has spoken with new head coach Sean Payton in recent weeks. He’s also consulted for Payton in the past.
The subject came up on Thursday morning’s edition of “Schlereth and Evans,” with Mike Evans asking Mark about the possibility. It’s no slam dunk, but it’s also not crazy.
“I talked to Sean several weeks ago. I haven’t talked to him since,” Schlereth said. “But, yeah, would I be interested? Certainly I’d be interested if that opportunity arose. I don’t know that it will. I would imagine that we’re going to have a chat about that, but maybe not, I don’t know. Let’s just say that we talked about it several weeks ago, haven’t talked about it since.”
Schlereth added there’s no “pending news” and no scheduled interview as of right now. He also said three or four other potential head coaches around the NFL could offer him a similar job. Schlereth wouldn’t commit to taking any of those and said it’d need to be the right situation, but he’s certainly open to interviewing and listening.
The Broncos offensive line was a mess in 2022, giving up 63 sacks in 17 games. That was the most in the NFL. They battled their fair share of injuries, but QB Russell Wilson was hit far too often. Offensive line coach Butch Barry was fired with two games to go, the same day former head coach Nathaniel Hackett was shown the door.
Some fans are clamoring for the return of former O-line coach Mike Munchak, who still makes a home in Colorado. Mike Klis is reporting former Saints offensive line / tight ends coach Dan Roushar could also be the mix.
We’ll see how it plays out, but how much fun would it be to see “Stink” back with the Broncos? If that happens, he joked with Evans he’ll never hear from him again and is likely to change his number. Our loss would be the team’s gain.
