Peyton Manning congratulates Tom Brady on retiring with classy message

Feb 1, 2023, 2:34 PM

Tom Brady retired on Wednesday morning.

This time we think it’s for real.

One year after retiring for a first time, Brady posted a message on Twitter say he’s officially done with football. Brady is widely thought of as the greatest NFL quarterback of all-time, and leaves with seven Super Bowl rings.

Perhaps Brady’s greatest rival throughout his career was former Broncos QB Peyton Manning. Their rivalry was born with Manning in Indianapolis and continued with some excellent battles in Denver. Brady got the best of Manning, finishing with an 11-6 record overall.

However, Manning earned the last laugh, beating him in the 2015 AFC Championship Game, the final time the two would ever meet on a football field. It was Manning’s third AFC Title Game win against Brady, this one right before the Broncos took home Super Bowl 50.

Manning and Brady were competitors on the field, but formed a strong friendship off it. “The Sheriff” posted a classy message on Instagram, congratulating Brady on his phenomenal career.

The post is two slides, so you have to swipe over to see Manning’s full message. It’s transcribed below.

“Congratulations to my friend Tom on an unbelievable football career. To do it as long as he did, at the highest level is absolutely incredible. It was an honor & a privilege to compete against him on the field, and I truly appreciated his friendship off the field,” Manning wrote. “I have always admired & respected his competitiveness his dedication, his discipline, and his commitment to being the best. I wish him the best in his next chapter. Congratulations again, pal!”

When Manning entered the Hall of Fame in 2021, Brady attended the ceremony, so it’s clear the two are indeed good buddies. There’s no word yet on if they’ll be playing golf together again any time soon.
