The path for Prime, Deion’s first full schedule with CU Buffs finally revealed

Jan 18, 2023, 11:10 AM | Updated: 11:28 am

We already knew parts of the Colorado Buffaloes football schedule for the 2023 season with the non-conference slate set ages ago and some leaks filled in the gaps, but on Wednesday we got the full picture.

Deion Sanders’ first season at Colorado will begin with a huge matchup at College Football Playoff championship game runner-ups Texas Christian University as part of a home-and-home. The Buffs lost 38-13 this past season against the Horned Frogs in what ended up being one of CU’s tightest games.

Coach Prime will then have two rivalry games in Boulder, taking on former Big 12 brothers Nebraska then in-state foes CSU. The Buffs have won each of their non-conference games against the Cornhuskers since they bolted for the Big Ten while the Rams have lost five straight to their Boulder opponents.

The conference slate begins with two massive matchups, at perennial powers Oregon and then hosting USC. The Buffs season ends, as it has every year since moving to the Pac-12, with the Rumble in the Rockies against Utah. Colorado will face their foes with a ton more talent than in past seasons.

Here’s a full look at the CU Buffs 2023 schedule:

Sept. 2 AT TCU Horned Frogs, Fort Worth
Sept. 9 vs Nebraska Cornhuskers, Boulder
Sept. 16 vs Colorado State Rams, Boulder
Sept. 23 AT Oregon Ducks, Eugene

“We’re excited about the home schedule we’ve put together for both the start of the Coach Prime era and the 100th season at Folsom Field,” CU Athletic Director Rick George said in a news release. “Having both Nebraska and Colorado State at home for the first time in 18 years, the final game against USC for the foreseeable future and Family Weekend, Homecoming and Senior Day games set, 2023 is shaping up to be one of our most exciting home schedules in a long time.”

CU notes in the same press release that the television game selections and start times for the first three weeks of the season will be known in early June, with all remaining games from Sept. 23 through the final week of the regular season to be made 12 or an occasional six days in advance per contractual agreements.
