Just a day after the Celebration Bowl loss and hours after getting on campus at the University of Colorado-Boulder, new Buffaloes head football coach Deion Sanders sat down for a lengthy tell-all interview with his old friend and fellow Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe on his show, Club Shay Shay.

Sanders for the first time disclosed his gnarled left foot that required emergency surgery due to blood clots. Not only did Coach Prime show his foot which has had two toes amputated but he detailed to Sharpe what living with the pain has been like and just how bad it’s been for the former superstar athlete.

“First it was the leg, then life and the 2 toes…I thank God it got to 2 toes. Take them, I’m good,” Sanders exclaimed.

Sanders took the Colorado job earlier this month, making national headlines as he left an HBCU in Jackson State where he had spent three successful years. Sanders expressed his feelings about the very vocal backlash.

“People are hurt. It’s emotions and anger, but I listen…If I didn’t know who I was, where I was going, and didn’t know the Lord, I would believe some of those things,” he said.

Sanders shared his coaching idols, ranging from his pee wee leader to Bobby Bowden and Mickey Andrews. He told the story of how he first got into coaching and described how he fell in love with the job.

“I love challenges I’m not here for money no way. Rick George made me feel comfortable. He made me feel like this was a need, a desire from the city, the fans, everyone. I felt like I was the guy for this job,” Sanders said on the show.

Prime also filled Sharpe in on how he recruits, saying, “I’m not selling nothing, I am who I am. If you want exposure, I’m going to give you exposure. We know how to use social media like no other. We have people designed to make you shine.”
