Broncos chip in helping Mines students cheer Orediggers in title game

Dec 15, 2022, 11:37 AM

The Colorado Mines Orediggers are having a helluva year as the football team has earned a trip to the division two national championship on Saturday, where they’ll face Ferris State.

According to 104.3 The Fan contributor and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group donated $100,000 to the school to cover the transportation costs of students wanting to travel to the school’s first national championship game appearance.

“On behalf of Mines Athletics and Mines Football Thank you to the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group and the Broncos for supporting the student-athlete experience of Colorado School of Mines,” David Hansburg, the Director of Athletics at Colorado School of Mines wrote on Twitter. “Let’s win it all together for Colorado!”

The Orediggers are 13-2 on the season and have won 13 games straight. They beat Sheppard 44-13 on Saturday in Golden to advance to the title game in Texas. They just played in Texas earlier this month, when they upset No. 2 Angelo State 42-24. Last season Mines also made it deep in the playoffs but were bounced in the semifinal.

Saturday’s game is at 11 a.m. Denver time and will be broadcasted on ESPNU from the north suburbs of Dallas.
