Former Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado finishes third in NL MVP voting

Nov 17, 2022, 4:50 PM | Updated: 5:09 pm

Former Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado continues to be very good at baseball.

And the organization at 20th and Blake keeps looking worse and worse for trading him, along with $50 million, to the St. Louis Cardinals for a handful of prospects.

Arenado finish third in the National League MVP voting for the 2022 MLB season, it was announced on Thursday night. He missed out on winning the award for the first time, as his teammate Paul Goldschmidt took home the honor and Padres 3B Manny Machado came in second. Arenado also finished third in MVP voting with the Rockies back in 2018. It’s his fourth career top-5 finish.

In 2022, Arenado made his seventh All-Star Game and won his 10th consecutive Gold Glove award. He hit for a .293 average, launched 30 home runs and notched 103 RBI. The Cardinals won the NL Central, but bowed out in the Wild Card round of the postseason to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Only Austin Gomber and Elehuris Montero played at the MLB level for the Rockies this season out of the five players they received back in the Arenado deal. Gomber was demoted from a starting pitcher to the bullpen and finished with a 5.56 ERA. He gave up a home run to Arenado at Coors Field in a cruel twist of irony.

Montero was called up to the big leagues during the season and finished with a .233 batting average in 53 games. He hit six home runs.

The Rockies finished with 68-94 record, good for dead last in the NL West. They missed the playoffs for a fourth straight season.
