Hackett thinks Broncos can use London as springboard for road success

Technically, the Broncos are 1-3 on the road in 2022.
That one win, though, came in front of a lot of Denver fans.
After an 0-3 start away from the Mile High City, the Broncos earned their first road victory against the Jaguars 12 days ago. The 21-17 triumph came in front of a ton of Broncos fans at Wembley Stadium in London. Considering road trips to Seattle, Las Vegas and Los Angeles before that all resulted in losses, it’s a start.
The Broncos will be back on a more traditional road trip this week, headed to Nashville on Saturday to face the Titans on Sunday. They spent nearly a week in London before taking down Jacksonville. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett thinks that experience can be a springboard for them to find more success away from home.
“It was a super road trip. It’s such a different experience because we were there for so long. I thought it was great for our team, to get away, to be able to bond. To have tons of meals together, to hang out and be in a foreign land. There were so many great things about that. I love that trip, I’ve done it a lot of times,” Hackett said.
The Broncos (temporarily) saved their season and probably saved Hackett’s job with the victory. Now, they will need to string a lot of wins together to even think about a playoff push.
But even with a 3-5 record, Hackett mentioned the postseason earlier this week. He’s expecting his team to figure out how to win on the road, given they’ve had a couple heartbreaking losses in those games this year.
“It was just good to see those guys come together. We look at all these games on the road, a lot of them, they’ve been very close games. And we’re a couple plays away. In the end, that’s what it comes down to. Guys got to make plays. Big time players make big time plays in big time situations,” Hackett said.
It’s a subtle, but pointed message to his team. Someone’s got to step up, particularly the stars. QB Russell Wilson did in London, as did the rest of the offense.
Now it’s time to go do it in Tennessee.
