Chicago Bears big night confirms Broncos have worst offense in the NFL

Oct 25, 2022, 10:35 AM

Heading into Monday Night Football, the Broncos hadn’t scored the fewest points in the NFL.

That changed in a big way, as the Bears hung a huge number on the Patriots in a stunning 33-14 win. Chicago’s offense looked really good, and Justin Fields had them moving the ball up and down the field.

But this isn’t about the Bears, it’s about Denver. And with Chicago taking their season total in points from 93 to 126, the Broncos sit all alone in last place in the NFL for both total points scored and points per game. Denver has managed just 100 lousy points through seven games. The Rams have scored 104 and the Texans 106, but each of those teams have already had their bye weeks. They’ve only played six times.

The total points per game is even more jarring. Denver’s averaging just 14.3 per contest. That’s an entire point behind the 31st ranked Pittsburgh Steelers, who are putting up 15.3 per game. For context, the Chiefs lead the NFL by tallying 31.9 points per game.

It shows just how far behind Denver is their main “rival” in the AFC West, although it’s hard to call Kansas City a rival right now. The Broncos have lost 13 straight games to the Chiefs.

After Sunday’s 16-9 defeat to the Jets, Denver has scored one or zero touchdowns in six of its seven games. The lone exception was in Week 4 against the Raiders when they managed to find the end zone three times. It’s a shocking stat for a group that had such high expectations led by new QB Russell Wilson. As our own James Merilatt points out, maybe the supporting cast just isn’t that good?

Regardless, Denver better get it turned around. They’re sending their first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to Seattle no matter what, and right now that would be the No. 6 overall selection. Meanwhile, the Seahawks somehow lead the NFC West at 4-3.

The Broncos are already in London for their game on Sunday against the Jaguars. We’ll see if a trip over the Atlantic Ocean was what this offense needed to get right.

If not, people might start losing their jobs, especially with a bye week upcoming. And the NFL’s most pathetic offense.
