Hackett says wife doesn’t like it, but he’s always with Wilson trying to fix Broncos

Oct 13, 2022, 12:53 PM

The Denver offense has been brutal through five games.

And the two men facing the most heat in Broncos Country are head coach Nathaniel Hackett and quarterback Russell Wilson. It’s to be expected, and fair, as Denver is averaging just 15 points per game. That ranks them 31st in the NFL, trailing only the Colts, who they somehow lost to 12-9 in OT last week.

At his press conference on Thursday, head coach Nathaniel Hackett was asked if he’s comfortable with Wilson’s decision making thus far. Wilson threw two awful interceptions against Indy, and failed on a fourth-down play that could’ve won the game.

Hackett dodged the question, instead focusing on how much time he and Wilson are spending together to try to fix this offense.

“Both of us continually talk, all the time. We’re together quite a bit. My wife doesn’t like it much, but we spend a lot of time together to make sure we’re on the same page. The good thing is, whether something goes right or wrong, we’re able to explain that to each other. The idea is to continually just make that better and better. As we work together, it’s only been about five games, I think we’ll get better along the way,” Hackett said.

The head coach and the QB being on the same page is important, but Broncos fans are tired of hearing about how the offense needs time. Yes, it’s only been five games, but those five game have stunk. Wilson, Hackett and the offense definitely need to get rolling on Monday night against the Chargers.

Wilson also spoke on Thursday, for the first time since receiving an injection to help an ailing shoulder. He says he’ll be good to go, after looking very shaky against the Colts. Hackett emphasized that as well, believing in his QB’s recovery process.

“He definitely looks good, we’ll see more today. Russ has played in the league for a long time and all players have different things that they have to deal with. He’s doesn’t complain. He keeps his head down, he works hard, he does everything he can to make his body feel as good as he possibly can throughout the season. I think that you’re always dealing with that stuff, across the board. But I do think that he’s doing an amazing job getting himself to 100 percent,” Hackett said.

It’s go time for the Broncos. The excuses have to stop and the product needs to be better. With Wilson feeling good, and Hackett joking they’re always together, it’s time to see those results.

We’re fixing to find out in a few days against the Chargers.
