Hackett responds to Russell Wilson’s cryptic tweet, says it’s a beautiful day

Oct 11, 2022, 11:38 AM | Updated: 2:43 pm

A lot happened over the weekend when the Broncos were away from their facility during the team’s mini-bye.

After an embarrassing 12-9 overtime loss to the Colts last Thursday night, head coach Nathaniel Hackett gave his players and staff a couple of days off. The rest and relaxation was needed for a team that has underachieved thus far in 2022, sitting at just 2-3 overall.

The biggest news was QB Russell Wilson flying to L.A. on Friday to receive an injection on his hurt throwing shoulder. Wilson is battling a lat issue, with several reports saying it’s strained.

On Saturday, Wilson tweeted the following, which certainly turned some heads…

The reports of his injection came out just about an hour later, so clearly Wilson was laying the groundwork for the big news coming. Even after his brutal two interceptions against the Colts, and final failure on fourth-down, Wilson wanted people to know he was hurt. And is still willing to battle.

On Tuesday, head coach Nathaniel Hackett was asked about Wilson’s tweet by 104.3 The Fan’s DMac, suggesting he was going through hell right now.

“I didn’t see that one. I mean, Russell’s a competitor and he knows that we’re not where we want to be. And I know he wants to do everything in his power to get this offense, this team, to where we all want to be. We’re 2-3, we are who we are, and we need to get better and he knows that. He’s going to do everything in his power to get us there,” Hackett said.

When pressed further by DMac, if Hackett thought the Broncos were in a “dark place” or “hellish” situation, Hackett took the positive outlook.

“I mean, that’s the first time I’ve heard that quote. But, no, I think it’s a beautiful day. I’m here with everybody and there’s a lot of improvement to be done. Whenever you know there’s improvement that can happen there’s going to be a lot of improvement,” Hackett said.

Improvement! Hackett said it three times in a relatively short answer, so clearly it’s top of mind. The Broncos better improve, and in a hurry. Only the hapless Colts have scored fewer points through five weeks. And, oh yeah, they beat the Broncos five days ago.

Denver will look to get back on track next Monday night in Los Angeles against the Chargers. It’s a pivotal game, as there’s a huge difference between 2-4 and 3-3. Let’s hope Hackett continues to think things are beautiful after that one.
