Russell Wilson’s authenticity questioned in host’s viral rant, called a “poser”

Oct 7, 2022, 10:57 AM

For the third time is less than a month, the Broncos led every national sports talk show on Friday morning.

And not in a good way. Denver has played three of its first five games in primetime, and none of the results have been pretty. There was the debacle in Seattle, a stunning 17-16 loss fueled by Nathaniel Hackett’s questionable decision making. There was also the ugly 11-10 win against the San Francisco 49ers, a game we didn’t think could be replicated.

Well, it was on Thursday night, in a sense. Except this time the Broncos were on the wrong side of it, losing in embarrassing fashion to the Colts, 12-9 in overtime. Russell Wilson threw two horrendous and inexcusable interceptions. He also missed an easy touchdown read on the game’s final play, which was an Indy fourth-down stop to seal the improbable victory.

The whole football world woke up on Friday wanting to talk about it, particularly about Wilson. He was underwhelming in the first four games and was downright terrible against Indy. And no one had a more viral rant than “Good Morning Football’s” Kyle Brandt. He talked not only about the game, but about how Wilson might be already wearing on his teammates in the locker room and his personality. It’s a must-watch…

Wow. Brandt is just slinging arrows. From calling Wilson one of the least authentic players in the league, to a poser, he held nothing back. Brandt also took shots at Wilson and his wife Ciara, comparing their celebrity status to that of other NFL players.

This one is tricky. On one hand, Brandt is very passionate and makes some interesting points. Things definitely fell apart in Seattle, and an ESPN bombshell suggested some of these qualities were present and the divorce with the franchise was Wilson’s fault.

On the other hand, it feels extremely personal. That’s a gray area that feels borderline unfair. He played a bad football game. Does that make him all the things Brandt says he is? No. Denver fans don’t want to hear “Broncos Country, Let’s Ride” from Wilson after that abysmal performance, but his flaws don’t make him a bad person.

The bottom line is questions are already starting to come to the surface. And the Broncos and Wilson have everyone’s attention. Right now, it’s in a very, very bad way.
