Former CU star, Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay is once again out of a job

Aug 30, 2022, 1:46 PM

The Phillip Lindsay era with Indianapolis lasted a little more than three months.

After inking a contract with the Colts in May, Lindsay was a bit of a surprise cut on Tuesday. Indy apparently had seen enough, and didn’t have a role for Lindsay behind star Jonathan Taylor and serviceable running back Nyheim Hines.

Lindsay, of course, played his high school football at Denver South and college ball at the University of Colorado. He went undrafted in 2018 before catching on with the Broncos. Lindsay posted back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons in ’18 and 2019 and scored 16 total rushing touchdowns. He had a down year in 2020 before playing for the Texans and Dolphins a season ago.

Lindsay just turned 28 last month, so he’s still a young man. But it’s also fair to wonder if this is the end of his NFL journey, as he’s now been on three teams in a year. He’ll need a fourth to take a chance in the coming days to keep playing pro football.

Before anyone asks, no, a reunion in Denver isn’t happening. The Broncos won’t be a fit for Lindsay, as they seem pretty set with Javonte Williams, Melvin Gordon and Mike Boone in their running back room. Denver’s final 53-man roster is nearly set, with Lindsay hoping to find a new home somewhere else in the NFL.
