Broncos at Seahawks named one of NFL’s biggest revenge games of 2022

Aug 23, 2022, 3:38 PM

The Denver Broncos will start the season with a bang, taking on the Seattle Seahawks in a Week 1 Monday Night Football clash in Washington.

The matchup is headlined by the quarterback swap that took place this offseason. The Seahawks dealt star signal-caller, and maybe the Emerald city’s best to ever do it, Russell Wilson, to Denver for young QB Drew Lock and assets.

Wilson’s first game in orange in blue will be at his home field. Will he be booed? Or cheered for his 10 seasons in Seattle, including a Super Bowl win over the Broncos? We’ll find out in just under three weeks.

We also don’t know if Lock or Geno Smith will get the start for Seattle.

For the blockbuster Wilson deal, Deadspin has named the matchup one of its biggest revenge games of the season.

Criss Partee for Deadspin wrote the story on Tuesday:

Seattle’s 12th-man fan base has been recognized as the loudest in the league, and that night won’t be any different. They will be ready and waiting to boo Wilson out of the building in his return. This is the best-case scenario for Carroll and the Seahawks and their chances of winning this game.

The new Broncos QB is expected to ride Denver back to respectability after missing the playoffs every season since the club’s last Super Bowl win with Peyton Manning. Wilson answers the question of Broncos leader after much tumult since Manning hung the cleats up.

In Washington, the former Wisconsin Badger, Wilson grew from a two-sport prospect who once played for the Colorado Rockies in the minors into a nine-time Pro Bowler. Wilson is on the verge of an extension and could spend just as many years in the Mile High City as he did a Seahawk. Pete Carroll, the coach for all his years in Seattle, still leads the 12th Man. Wilson did have an ugly exit from Seattle after years of chaos within the organization.
