The Colorado Rockies are barely worth watching right now.

They sit a season low 14 games below .500 with a 46-60 record. They’re just 3-11 since the All-Star Break. And they didn’t bother to do anything at all at the trade deadline, other than have a pizza party.

But that doesn’t mean they still can’t make a highlight reel play every now and then. That happened on Thursday afternoon in San Diego.

New Padres infielder Brandon Dury came to the plate against Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland in a scoreless second inning. Drury, who hit a grand slam in his San Diego debut on Wednesday night, launched a ball to left field. It looked like a surefire home run. That was until Colorado outfielder Sam Hilliard made arguably the catch of the year.

Wow!

The reaction from Kyle Freeland says it all, mouthing words I won’t write here. That was an incredible catch.

Maybe it helps the Rockies avoid a five-game sweep by the Padres, which would be the first in franchise history. Yes, five games, due to a schedule quirk because of the MLB lockout.

The Rockies haven’t had many highlights recently, but that Hilliard catch is one you’ll be seeing on shows throughout the country tonight.
