Charlie Blackmon’s 200th home run made two guys fall out of their boats

Jun 8, 2022, 10:02 AM

While the Broncos were getting sold and you were possibly sleeping, Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon did something pretty cool on Tuesday night.

The fan favorite launched his 200th career home run, propelling the Rockies to a 5-3 win over the Giants in San Francisco. The blast helped the Rockies stop a four-game losing streak and was only their third win in their last 14 games at Oracle Park.

Blackmon became just the seventh Rockie in franchise history to hit at least 200 home runs.

And while that’s all great for “Chuck Nazty,” the best part about the dinger may have been what happened when it landed… or splashed down. Blackmon launched the baseball 425 feet into McCovey Cove, where three brave kayakers were waiting for a shot to snag it.

Only one of them ended up with it — and the other two took hilarious spills into the frigid water.

What a fantastic and funny video.

The days of Barry Bonds drawing hundreds of fans out to McCovey Cove on a nightly basis are long gone, so you’d think you’d have to be pretty hardcore to spend a Tuesday evening in early June out there. You’d also think they would have a little more composure on the rare chance a baseball made it their way, but here we are.

The low temperature last night in San Francisco dipped to 57 degrees with 20 MPH winds, so hopefully those guys eventually warmed up. For Blackmon, his 200th home run will be always be memorable. For those fans, it was just messy.
