Clayton: Jalen Hurts could be in trouble when he faces Vic Fangio
The Broncos head coach always seems to shine when he faces a young quarterback, which could spell trouble for the Eagles on Sunday
Watch: Should the focus be on Bo Nix playing well or the Packers CRUSHING the Broncos? | Freshly Grated | 22 mins
Good defensive coaches usually do well against young quarterbacks. They feast on QBs who are either rookies or in their second year.
Bill Belechick is without a doubt the best. Vic Fangio is also a good one.
This was evident early in the season. When the Broncos meet Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson, Fangio’s defense was stellar.
Before the bye week, the Broncos play Jalen Hurts. It stands to reason taht Fangio should have a pretty good game plan to stop him and try to get the Broncos their sixth win.
A lot of people in Philadelphia aren’t sure Hurts is the right quarterback to be a winner for the franchise. Sunday might not help his cause.
Hurts is completing 61.5 percent of his passes. In nine starts, he’s averaging only 220.1 yards a game. He has 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. His yards per completion is 7.3.
Fangio did say Hurts is a good quarterback. But all coaches are going to say that leading into a game.
“It’s the first time I’ve watched him and prepared to play against him,” Fangio said. “I’ve been very impressed. He has a really good arm. He can be very accurate. He obviously rans their zone-read stuff where he’s in the shotgun and can pull it out and run it – the RPO game. He’s very adept at both of these. He did it in college and they’re doing it now. Great scrambler. Great arm. I think they have their quarterback.”
The Eagles, though, aren’t sure. Stay tuned for Sunday
