Bad habits returned, raising doubt that the Broncos have changed

Oct 5, 2021, 6:39 AM

The Broncos got crushed by the Ravens on Sunday. Teddy Bridgewater suffered a concussion, but the game was 17-7 at the time of his injury and was starting to get ugly. The Broncos had no answer for the Ravens on both sides of the ball.

All the Broncos fans saying “Yeah but…” regarding their 3-0 start were completely validated. They were proven right.

You can only play the schedule in front of you, and the Broncos took care of business for the first three weeks of the season. However, the main question looming was “Can Denver do it against a good team?” and the team failed to respond.

Does this mean the sky is falling? Certainly not yet. But it does raise red flags regarding if the Broncos are a good team.

It wasn’t just that the Broncos lost, it was how they lost. Losing 23-7 at home to a team that is equally as injured as them and with a QB who hadn’t practiced all week. Any thought of the team taking that next step was immediately disregarded as we saw Garett Bolles get a holding call, Vic Fangio mismanaging his timeouts before halftime and Pat Shurmur abandoning the run game after a little adversity.

It was an ugly game from start to finish. And it was a continuation of past problems.

This is not a bad football team. They will beat the bad teams they face. The real question is “Is this team good or even mediocre?” Can they beat the decent teams they face?

That remains to be seen. But they’re currently 0-1 against good teams, and left a lot to be desired moving forward.
