Clayton: It could be a scary situation for the Broncos against the Ravens
Baltimore offers all sorts of unique challenges, tests that will be even bigger given Denver's potential injury situation heading into Week 4
Watch: The good, the bad and the UGLY from Broncos Preseason Game No. 2 | 11 mins
There are plenty of scary things ahead as the Broncos prepare for the Baltimore Ravens. It’s just part of the reason why things are about to get a whole lot tougher for Denver.
Can the Broncos stop the Ravens running game and Lamar Jackson with three young linebackers and Von Miller. Miller is fine, but the Ravens have a creative offensive coordinator. Greg Roman loves to come up with different designs with his running game.
I remember following him when he was with the San Francisco 49ers. He found ways to make things work for Colin Kaepernick. At times, he did a little too much. But for Sunday’s game, you would have to think he’s going to be at his most creative, particularly knowing he’s going against one of the best secondaries in the league.
Another problem for the Broncos is the Ravens defense. The Ravens love to blitz. Last week against Detroit, they blitzed 41.3 percent of the time. Making matters worse is Denver’s injury situation. Dalton Risner and Graham Glasgow didn’t practice Wednesday because of their leg injuries. If they can’t play, the offensive line could have major problems.
The Ravens have big, talented defensive linemen and the Broncos could be going with two young guards. That’s a problem.
It’s fortunate that Teddy Bridgewater is the quarterback. He’s experienced enough to know how to handle things and not make mistakes. To win, the Broncos need a mistake-free day. That might not happen if Drew Lock was the quarterback.
That’s not knocking Lock’s ability – he probably is more talented than Bridgewater – but you go back to last year and he was tied for the league lead with 15 interceptions. Of course, the Ravens have their own injury worries.
This game gets more interesting as the week progresses.
