Clayton: Lamar Jackson will pose a major challenge to the Broncos defense

Because of injuries, the Broncos offense will be challenged on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. The defense is equally challenged against the Ravens.

The problem is stopping the run. Lamar Jackson is amazing and almost unstoppable with his elusiveness. Despite losing their top three running backs, the Ravens are averaging a little more than 185 yards a game on the ground. That leads the NFL.

It appears as though Jackson is heading toward another 1,000-yard rushing season. The problem facing the Broncos is how young they are with their linebacker corps. They have two starters – Bradley Chubb and Josey Jewell – on injured reserve. That leaves three young linebackers and Von Miller. It won’t be easy.

“It’s hard,” Vic Fangio said about the challenge of stopping Jackson. “That’s why this guy has won an MVP. That’s why the Ravens have won a lot of games since he’s become their starting quarterback. He’s hard to contain. He’s a special talent. It’s almost like Pro Football Hall of Fame (running back) Barry Sanders is playing quarterback. We’ll try to do our best.”

Fangio thinks the best quarterback comparison is to Michael Vick

“This guy is shiftier,” Fangio said.

The Broncos face a difficult challenge.
