Nuggets add veteran Jeff Green on 2-year, $10 million deal

Aug 2, 2021, 6:46 PM

Right off the bat in free agency, the Denver Nuggets have added a veteran presence with significant playoff experience, reportedly agreeing to a deal with forward Jeff Green.

Per ESPN’s Malika Andrews, the 13-year NBA veteran inked a two-year, $10 million deal with Denver, which includes a player option in the second year.

The news comes on the heels of Denver retaining two of its own unrestricted free agents — forward JaMychal Green and guard Will Barton.

The fifth-overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Celtics, Green was a piece in the trade that sent Ray Allen from Seattle to Boston to form the “big three” with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.

That season for the SuperSonics, Green was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team, averaging 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 80 games.

Green would eventually return to play for the Celtics a few years later and would go on to play for 10 NBA teams (11 if you count the move from Seattle to Oklahoma City) before joining the Nuggets.

Most recently the 34-year-old played a key role for the Brooklyn Nets, including a 27-point performance in a Game 5 win over the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

In total, Green has played in 78 playoff games during his career, including 18 starts, averaging 9.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists.

For his NBA career, Green have averaged 12.8 points, 1.6 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game.
