Peter King says Broncos never “appreciated” Phillip Lindsay

Peter King did not hold back in his most recent Football Morning in America column, stating that the Denver Broncos’ handling of running back Phillip Lindsay “didn’t make a lot of sense.”

“Running back Phillip Lindsay is the most underappreciated skill player in recent NFL history,” King wrote.

The Broncos announced last Thursday that they mutually decided to part ways, rescinding the running back’s lowest-level tender.

Rescinding the tender made Lindsay an unrestricted free agent.

King looked at that situation in his column as a confusing decision from the Broncos.

“The Broncos, in rescinding Lindsay’s right-of-first-refusal tender with the team and allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent, essentially chose Melvin Gordon over him to lead the Broncos’ backfield,” King wrote. “Why? It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but I don’t think the Broncos ever appreciated what they had in Lindsay.”

It didn’t take long for Lindsay to find a new home with the Houston Texans, where Lindsay will make more money with the Texans in 2021 than he did in three years with the Broncos.

“Assuming he plays the season in Houston, he’ll make almost twice as much in one season as he made in three years with Denver,” King wrote.
