Brian Urlacher the latest to laud Broncos new head coach Vic Fangio

A former Chicago Bears linebacker, Brian Urlacher didn’t take it well when Vic Fangio left his former team to coach the Denver Broncos.

Sitting down with “Pritchard and Cecil” from Radio Row at Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta, Urlacher said he was upset to hear of Fangio’s departure but, ultimately, happy the long-time NFL assistant will get his first crack at the top job.

“Coach Fangio’s the man. I was very sad to see him leave Chicago. I was not happy about that,” Urlacher said. “But, it’s good for him to finally get a head coaching job.”

Urlacher lauded Fangio’s defensive coaching abilities, saying that his units have been “great” at every stop he’s been.

“Denver, the last five years, they’ve been really good on defense. I don’t see that changing at all,” Urlacher said. “They’ll probably get a little better, I think.”

The former All-Pro linebacker’s comments come just a day after former head coach and current NFL Network analyst Brian Billick heaped praise upon Fangio.

Billick, who is well-versed in legendary defenses, having coached the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, even went as far as to say the Broncos could surpass the 2015 squad that carried the team to a Super Bowl 50 victory.

“He’s a brilliant defensive coach. That defense, with no disrespect to what went on before, will be the best that it’s ever been with Vic Fangio heading it up,” Billick said.
