DMac: Broncos RB Lindsay, out with a wrist injury, ‘deserved better’

Phillip Lindsay saw his sensational rookie season abruptly end Tuesday, as multiple media reports indicate the undrafted Denver Broncos running back suffered a season-ending wrist injury in the team’s loss to the Oakland Raiders on Christmas Eve.

On Tuesday, “The Drive” co-host DMac said the Pro Bowl runner “deserved better” as his injury occurred in what amounted to a meaningless game in terms of wins and losses.

“There’s no momentum to build. There are no jobs to save. We stupidly put our running back of the future in harm’s way,” DMac said. “That’s going to sting.”

Per 9News’ Mike Klis, an MRI on Christmas morning showed ligament damage and a possible scaphoid fracture, meaning Lindsay will miss the Broncos final game of the 2018 season on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers and likely the Pro Bowl.

How long the injury will keep Lindsay sidelined, however, is unclear.

“Broncos management has nobody to blame but themselves,” DMac said of Lindsay’s injury. “When you play meaningless games, you should play them with players that don’t matter as much. So, can we have some common sense and shut down those players we need?”

DMac made a similar argument ahead of the Broncos-Raiders matchup on Monday Night Football, saying that team should only play players that they are “curious” about.

“When you fail to realize what matters and what doesn’t matter, mistakes often happen that you can’t take back,” DMac said. “The Broncos needed to know what mattered and what didn’t.”

In the game, Lindsay rushed 10 times for 46 yards, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark. With the effort, he became the sixth rookie in Broncos history to reach 1,000 yards rushing in his first season while also becoming the just third undrafted back in NFL history to do so in his rookie season.
