The Denver Nuggets are making plenty of noise at the halfway point of the NBA season, right now they’re atop the west, and Nikola Jokic is having another fabulous season.
In a poll run by NBA.com of a select group of NBA beat reporters, the group expects the Boston Celtics will win it all and Luka Doncic to snag the MVP. But there’s a ton of positive Nuggets buzz if you dig a bit further into the midpoint survey.
The experts believe the Nuggets are the NBA’s third-best team, behind Boston and Milwaukee, so the best in the west. But those same folks think the Clippers and Warriors are poised for a huge second-half runs. And the group voted the Clippers at 34%, to the Nuggets at 30%, to represent the Nuggets in the NBA Finals.
Denver’s Christmas day game against the Suns has left an impact on the media’s mind, getting voted the second-best game and play—for Aaron Gordon’s dunk—of the season thus far. The best game was Dallas’ win over New York powered by Luka Doncic’s 60-21-10 and the top play of the season, Luka’s putback to put the game into overtime.
Because of all this Doncic is just ahead of Jokic in the MVP race right now, 43% to 40%. Jokic was voted the best center in the NBA and at a higher percentage than any other player at a top spot. Jokic was voted by far the best passer in the league too.
The Nuggets are at 27-13 and lead the west. They’re in the middle of a good chunk of games at home, where they’ve won 12 games in a row.
