Watch: Aaron Gordon’s dunk of the year keeps Nuggets flying atop west

Fly high Dasher, fly high Vixen, fly high Blitzen and fly high Aaron Gordon! The Denver Nuggets poster king blessed Landry Shamet on Christmas Day with an all-time jam to push the home team past the Phoenix Suns 128-125 in overtime.
Gordon completed his double-double in the extra period, going for 28 points and 13 rebounds on 18 shots. Gordon’s best, of his seven dunks, was saved for last. With 27 seconds left Gordon snatched a defensive rebound and hit the gas, and just when it looked like he’d slow down and dribble out some clock or pass it to the back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic on the weakside, he took off. From halfway up the lane Gordon launched into the sky with a leaning Landry Shamet in his way… it didn’t matter. The one-hand tomahawk was reviewed and called good.

Jokic became the third player in NBA history to get 41 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists in the game. Jokic and Gordon led the Nuggets to keep them atop the west at 21-11, in what was their sixth-straight home win.
Jamal Murray’s 12 points in the fourth quarter got the Nuggets back into the game before Jokic took over with some crazy shots to push Denver into overtime. The Suns were bolstered by seven three-point makes from Shamet, on a night Devin Booker left the game early. Shamet may have been hot enough to melt all the snow in Colorado, but his night ended under Gordon. No moment from Christmas will be remembered quite like Gordon’s slam, which rocked Ball Arena.
