Broncos took a bizarre penalty against the Jaguars because… a hot dog?

Nov 10, 2022, 12:56 PM

Mustard, relish, onions, tomato wedges, pickles, sport peppers and a dash of celery salt—how do you take your hot dog?

Apparently, the Denver Broncos took their touchdown with a side of frankfurter in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars, leading to a strange delay of game penalty. The Broncos scored their first touchdown of the game a few minutes before halftime, thanks to a Russell Wilson pass to Jerry Jeudy. But the ensuing kickoff got moved back five yards because somebody on special teams was eating a hot dog.

“We had a guy on the sideline eating a hot dog; I guess he didn’t go out there,” Broncos Special Teams Coordinator Dwayne Stukes said. “We had 10 guys out there, and I obviously had to address someone on the sidelines, and we got that taken care of.”

“Not gonna say any names, but he knows he was supposed to be out there,” the coach said. “Going forward, we made an emphasis of everybody, of all 11 guys being out there.”

So which special teamer was chowing down a glizzy mid-game? How did he get a hot dog? Did he miss the touchdown waving down a vendor? Does England have good hot dogs? Do you tip a hot dog vendor?

There are so many questions.

The penalty didn’t end up hurting the Broncos despite how rare it is to be late on a kickoff.

“You address the players, and what are you gonna do after that, though,” Stukes asked. “Are you going to say you’re not going to play next week—if they’re a core special teams player? You tell them what you want. You expect them to be there, especially since we practice and he was out there at practice. Now he has to be out there on the kickoff. There is nothing I can do. I can go there and grab all 11 Guys individually. ‘You’re out here, you’re out there,’ but at some point, they gotta realize what phase we’re on and know that they’re on their phase and be out there.”

Maybe Stukes should be talking to the team nutritionist about getting this player’s belly on the same phase.

The Broncos won 21-17, moving to 3-5 on the season.
