Former CU star and Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay’s NFL career isn’t over yet

Sep 6, 2022, 11:56 AM

Never count out Phillip Lindsay.

Just last week we told you about the Colts cutting the former CU star and Broncos running back, which many around the NFL felt was a surprising move. Well, Lindsay didn’t make another 53-man roster (yet), but Indianapolis saw enough to want to keep him in the building.

The Colts announced Lindsay will return to the team on the practice squad.

Indy has arguably the best running back in the NFL on its roster in Jonathan Taylor, and after that a serviceable backup in Nyheim Hines. It was surprising to not see Lindsay make the 53 as the third running back, but the Colts went with second-year back Deon Jackson out of Duke instead. Jackson projects to help them on special teams, something that is not a strength of Lindsay’s.

But now he’s just one injury away from getting promoted to Indianapolis’ active roster. He could also get snatched up by another team and placed on their 53-man squad at any point.

Lindsay, of course, played his high school football at Denver South and college ball at the University of Colorado. He went undrafted in 2018 before catching on with the Broncos. Lindsay posted back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons in ’18 and 2019 and scored 16 total rushing touchdowns. He had a down year in 2020 before playing for the Texans and Dolphins a season ago.

At 28-years-old, one would think Lindsay still has some gas left in the tank. It’s an uphill battle for him to show that, but as of now, he’s back in the NFL.
