Former Broncos WR Brandon Marshall: “I love this receiver corps”

Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall is a man you should listen to.

The Broncos selected Marshall in the fourth-round of the 2006 NFL Draft, a home run pick no matter how you slice it.

He played four years with the Broncos from 2006-2009, before being traded to the Dolphins. Marshall had three insanely productive years from 2007-2009, catching at least 100 footballs in each season and registering 23 combined touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl in ’08 and ’09.

Marshall joined Nate Jackson and John Davis on 104.3 The Fan during practice at Day 10 of Broncos training camp and is high on this current group of guys.

“This receiver segment is a really good room. And to me, I don’t know why people don’t have them in their top-5. Obviously, huge impact when ‘Pat’ (Tim Patrick) went down. But I still love this receiver core,” Marshall said.

After stops in Miami, Chicago and New York (Jets and Giants), Marshall finished his career in 2018 in Seattle. That’s where he got to know new Broncos QB Russell Wilson. He was in San Diego with Wilson and the receivers training during the offseason.

“Russ is my guy. One of my dear friends and anything I can do to help him, over these next 10 years that he wants, I’m going to be there for him. Being able to go out and there and coach up some of these younger pass catchers, that was a big deal,” Marshall said.

And while he’s touring NFL camps all over the country, Marshall was impressed with what he saw in Denver, particularly from Wilson.

“I’m an emotional guy. I was an emotional player. That’s the first thing I’m thinking about and I’m trying to feel, where’s the energy? I’m always looking for that spark plug. It’s Russell Wilson right now,” Marshall said.

Marshall knows the loss of Patrick to a torn ACL this week is going to hurt, but still believes in the other guys in the room.

“We know that Jerry Jeudy and Courtland (Sutton) and ‘Pat’ those were the top-3, those were the guys. They have the accountability in that room,” Marshall said. “It’s going to be fun to watch. It’s going to be a good year.”

A good year is what Broncos fans desperately need, starved for decent football after six seasons without a playoff berth. We’ll see if any of the current receivers can come close to matching Marshall’s production, but he likes what he’s seen so far.
