The Colorado Avalanche were rolling in the second period, leading the Edmonton Oilers 6-3 at the midway mark of Game 1.
But just before the start of the period, Darcy Kuemper was slow to get onto the ice with what looked like an equipment issue. Kuemper played, even making a big save when the Avs were only up 4-3, which led to a goal moments later for Colorado.
Kuemper left the game early in the period during a TV timeout. The team says he’s doubtful to return with an upper-body injury.
Pavel Francouz is in the game, and allowed a second-period goal to make the score 7-4 Avs.
Kuemper made 12 stops in the game after an up-and-down Round 2 performance against the Blues. The Avs starting netminder was injured when a stick hit him in the face during Round 1 against the Predators.
104.3 The Fan Insider Adrian Dater reports that the injury is related to Kuemper’s earlier eye injury.
I’m told Kuemper absence related to previous right eye injury @ColHockeyNow
