Dalton Risner reveals Russell Wilson FaceTimed the entire Broncos O-line

New Broncos QB Russell Wilson just gets it.

He’s already embracing Denver and his new teammates.

On Wednesday night Broncos offensive lineman Dalton Risner joined Cecil Lammey and Nick Ferguson to discuss the blockbuster addition of Wilson and did not hold back. Risner is as pumped as the rest of us.

“This is going to be big, man. I think this is the most excited Broncos Country has been for awhile,” Risner told Lammey and Ferguson.

And while Risner was a few minutes late joining the guys, he had an explanation that was absolutely awesome. Risner was on a FaceTime call with Wilson and Denver’s “entire offensive line” before the radio interview. Risner mentioned specifically that he, Lloyd Cushenberry and Garett Bolles were all on the call.

“He was telling us how excited he was to be a part of the team and how he knows we’re going to protect for him. We were just chopping it up and getting to know him. I think that says a lot about a guy’s character — the fact that he takes the time out to text the offensive line and hop on a joint FaceTime amidst I’m sure his life is very busy with his kids and his wife and this big trade,” Risner said.

You just love to hear it.

Risner also said it was the first time in his three years on the Broncos a new QB reached out to him right away. And he spoke glowingly about Wilson as a man as well.

“You guys asked me what it was like when I first got the news yesterday. One, it was awesome. You hear about a guy like Russell Wilson, not only a great quarterback, nine-time Pro Bowler, but an amazing dude off the field. An amazing representation of a man, husband, father, teammate — all that good stuff,” Risner said.

The Broncos did have to give up three players and five draft picks to land Wilson, but most everyone thinks it was worth the price. Still, Risner said that part of the trade was tough.

“I’m also going to miss my boys Noah, Shelby and Drew. I know it’s a part of the business, but especially Drew and Noah, they were a part of that draft class with me. So, I’m going to miss those boys and I know they’re going to have a lot of success in their careers,” Risner said.

The conversation featured plenty of football talk as well, including how Wilson’s mobility will impact Risner and the rest of the offensive line.

“I’ve had seven or eight quarterbacks in my three years with the Denver Broncos — all of them very different, but all of them a lot the same. One thing I think Russell is a lot different with is he’s going to be a lot more mobile. He likes to move around in the pocket, he likes to get outside of the box a lot of the times. So, for me, it’s going to be getting used to that,” Risner said.

The full interview is absolutely worth your time, and you can listen to it here at the 29:30 mark.
