Unlike Packers GM, Seahawks admit they’re getting calls on star QB

Mar 2, 2022, 12:43 PM

The NFL Combine interview craziness is officially underway, with almost every important person stepping in front of a microphone this week.

Broncos GM George Paton and head coach Nathaniel Hackett both took their turns on Tuesday, along with Packers GM Brian Gutekunst.

While neither Paton or Hackett dropped a QB bombshell, Gutekunst turned heads when he said he wasn’t receiving trade calls about Aaron Rodgers.

“Not at all,” Gutekunst told reporters. “Not at all. Not a single person.”

As “Maury” might say on his talk show, “the lie detector determined that was a lie!”

There’s no shot that no one has called the Packers about Rodgers. Zip. Zero. None.

The back-to-back MVP potentially wanting out of Green Bay has been the NFL’s worst kept secret. Of course NFL GMs are calling, including Paton.

That’s why when Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll spoke on Wednesday and admitted that his team is receiving phone calls about Russell Wilson, it wasn’t shocking.

Carroll told reporters GM John Schneider has had inquiries from “multiple teams” about Wilson’s availability, but added the team has “no intention” of trading the star QB.

Wilson has been rumored to be unhappy in Seattle, particularly in his relationship with Carroll, and recently scrubbed the Seahawks off his social media. A change of scenery for Wilson, who hasn’t made a Super Bowl in seven seasons, would be a good thing.

And while the oddsmakers seem to think Wilson will be back in Seattle, it’s no sure thing. Just last week Wilson’s odds were only -150 to return to the Seahawks. That’s the favorite, but not a slam dunk.

Wilson was +600 (the next best odds) to come to the Broncos, along with +800 to head to the Commanders or Buccaneers. The Steelers, Dolphins and Eagles were all +1200.

Carroll’s comments on Wednesday were expected, but at least he didn’t flat out deceive like Gutekunst. Instead, it’s a sign Wilson could be moved, but maybe teams like the Broncos just need to up their offer.
