A source close to Byron Allen told 104.3 The Fan that the media mogul is “all in” on attempting to buy the Denver Broncos. The source referenced that Allen has already secured double-digit billions in his attempt to purchase Tegna Inc. (which includes Denver’s KUSA-TV). The source also confirmed that Allen has the necessary funds to purchase the Broncos franchise.
Bloomberg reported the following statement from Allen on Tuesday:
“NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft came to me in November of 2019 and asked me to take a good look at buying an NFL team. And after serious consideration, I strongly believe I can help effectuate positive changes throughout the league. And for that reason, I will be making a bid for the Denver Broncos.”
Various net worth websites estimate Allen’s worth at approximately $450 million, well short of the expected amount north of $4 billion the Broncos are expected to sell for. However, 104.3 The Fan was told Allen has secured the resources to purchase the team.
A former stand-up comedian who made his fortune in the television industry, Allen’s outgoing public personality would be a contrast from the more reserved public nature of the late Pat Bowlen. 104.3 The Fan was told the former television host would look forward to becoming the very public and active face of the Denver Broncos.
