Broncos place original round tender on Phillip Lindsay

The Denver Broncos have reportedly placed an original round tender on restricted free agent running back Phillip Lindsay, per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The low tender gives the Broncos the option of matching any offer sheet Lindsay signs in free agency. Though because of Lindsay’s undrafted status, Denver will not receive any compensation should they choose not to match.
Therefore, as Denver 7 Insider Troy Renck points out, the low tender increases the likelihood Lindsay leaves the Broncos if he gets a good offer in free agency.
After a Pro Bowl nod as an undrafted rookie in 2018, Lindsay followed up his 1,000-yard campaign with another as a full-time starter in 2019.
However, in an injury-hampered 2020, Lindsay saw his production drop along with the emergence of competition at the running back position with Melvin Gordon III.
In 11 games (eight starts), Lindsay rushes 118 times for 502 yards and one touchdown. Comparatively, Gordon ran for nearly 1,000 yards and scored nine rushing and one receiving touchdown in 2020.
