There was no doubt that Peyton Manning was going to be a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer during the announcements on Saturday evening. Manning’s five-time MVP awards and two Super Bowl champions rings made his election anything but surprising.
However, in a year where nothing has been ordinary, Manning received his Hall of Fame “knock” in a very different way.
According to 9News Broncos Insider Mike Klis, a big production at Empower Field was organized by Manning’s wife Ashley and the Broncos’ public relations team on Friday, January 22nd, where Manning found out he was going to officially be in the Hall of Fame.
Five of Manning’s most special coaches joined him on the field at Empower Field to deliver the Hall of Fame news. Those coaches included: David Cutcliffe and Philip Fulmer, Manning’s offensive coordinator and head coach at Tennessee; Tony Dungy and Jim Caldwell, two of Manning’s coaches with the Colts; and Gary Kubiak, his final coach with the Denver Broncos.
After the five former coaches addressed Manning, a pre-recorded video tribute played on the jumbotron before president and executive director of the Pro Football Hall of Fame David Baker gave Manning the news he was going to be immortalized in Canton.
