ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos kicker Brandon McManus was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Denver’s 37-28 win against the New York Jets, the NFL announced on Wednesday.

This marks the first conference recognition of McManus’ career and the first AFC Special Teams Player of the Year honor by a Bronco since safety Justin Simmons in 2016 (Week 10).

McManus connected on 3-of-3 field goal attempts (40, 54, 53) and 4-of-4 PATs for 13 points against the Jets. His 53-yarder with 3:08 remaining in the fourth quarter gave the Broncos a 30-28 lead they would not relinquish.

His performance represented his fifth career game with multiple 50-yard field goals, tying for the second most in NFL history. It also marked the second time in his career he connected on multiple 50-yarders in the fourth quarter, making him one of just three players in league annals to accomplish that feat.

This season, McManus has made 6-of-7 field goals with his only miss coming from 58 yards out. His three 50+yard field goals are tied for the second most in the league this season and his 56-yarder against Tampa Bay in Week 3 is tied for the second longest by an NFL kicker in 2020. He also has converted 8-of-8 PATs for 26 total points this season.

The longest-tenured player on Denver’s active roster, McManus last week passed Ring of Fame kicker Jim Turner for the second-most made field goals (157) in franchise history (incl. postseason). During his career, he has made 157-of-190 kicks with his 82.6-percent conversion rate representing the second-best mark in team annals (Matt Prater – 82.9%).

Overall, McManus’ honor represents the 27th time a Broncos player has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week since the award was initiated by the NFL in 1993.
