Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller said he didn’t have any doubts cornerback Chris Harris Jr. would be ready for the season despite skipping the first day of the club’s offseason program on Tuesday.
Harris, according to reports, skipped the workouts, which are voluntary, to send a message about his desire for a contract extension.
“It’s optional, right? This is an optional period to be here,” Miller said. “We all know what type of pro Chris is on and off the football field.”
“He’s going to be ready to go whenever he’s here, and if he’s not here, he’s still going to be ready to go. We’re talking about ‘Strap Harris.’ He can be on Mars and he’s going to be ‘Strap Harris.’”
Much like Miller, who supports Harris “100 percent,” “The Drive” co-host DMac backed the cornerback skipping team activities, saying he shouldn’t “step on the field to do anything with the Denver Broncos” until he has an extension.
“Why would he? He is so well within his rights to ask for an extension it’s ridiculous. It’s preposterous,” DMac said. “And this is the time for him to do it.”
“Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley also doled out kudos to Harris on Tuesday, saying “good job” to the All-Pro as he looked at the situation from his perspective.
“As a football player when you have leverage, which he has right now to a certain degree, you know what you should do with it? Use it. Use your leverage,” Stokley said. “And, certainly, he has a little bit of that right now, so go ahead and use it.”
