Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins declared for the NFL draft on Monday, which will directly affect the top of the draft, including the Denver Broncos.
“Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley called Haskins declaring “good news” for the Broncos, whether the team wants to jump up from their No. 10 draft slot to get him or by adding another quarterback to the field so they might be able to select on where they’re set to draft.
“You could try to make a move if you want if you really love him because you know that Jacksonville is a team that wants a quarterback, needs a quarterback. And if you want to leapfrog them and get in front of them and you like this guy that much and he’s your guy, then you could make that move,” Stokley said.
“If not, it just throws more quarterbacks into the pool, so now you have a better chance at getting one at 10 if you want one of these guys.”
In both of CBS Sports’ mock 2019 NFL drafts, Haskins lands with the Jacksonville Jaguars as the first player off the board. In one, Missouri quarterback Drew Lock is projected to the Broncos at No. 10 while the other has Lock going to the New York Giants at No. 6.
If the Broncos indeed want to go with a quarterback with its top pick, Stokley said they have to “be aggressive” and move up in front of those teams if needed.
“If you see your guy, what price is too high? There is no price that’s too high,” Stokley said, adding he believes the Broncos will have to make a move to secure a quarterback in the draft.
