Phillip Lindsay hits century mark, shines again in Broncos 24-17 win

Nov 25, 2018, 8:05 PM

Move over Selvin Young. The title of most prolific undrafted rookie running back in Denver Broncos history now belongs to Phillip Lindsay.

A 100-yard performance from Lindsay not only helped lift the Broncos to 24-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday but also means he’s rushed for more yards (780) than any other Denver undrafted rookie.

“Lindsay, for a rookie, has played at a veteran level. Every game, he shows up. He’s consistent, he’s smart, he’s tough and he makes big plays for us,” head coach Vance Joseph said after the game.

With a career-high 110 yards, Lindsay eclipsed the century mark for the second time this season and became the first opponent to do so to the Steelers in 2018.

“Phillip, he’s a big-time player. He’s made a huge difference for our team obviously. He’s a guy you can count on, week in and week out to make plays,” quarterback Case Keenum said after the game. “Teams are probably scheming to stop him.

“We’re doing a great job of getting him the ball in space, and even when he’s not, he’s grinding it out in between the tackles and making some big plays. It’s been impressive.”

Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan host Orlando Franklin credited the 5-foot-8, 190-pound back’s success not with his measurables but the size of his heart.

“He’s a guy who just wants it more than others. You can tell by his heart. You can see in his running style he’s a physical runner,” Franklin said. “I know this guy is probably 185 pounds, but, man, he plays like he’s about 240 out there.”

But Lindsay instead credited his offensive line with his success after the game.

“They’re out there putting their body on the line 24-7. They get the least talked about out of everybody, and they come in here ready to work,” Lindsay said. “On top of that, people were (trashing them) at the beginning. They deserve everything they get.

“They’re out there working. They’re doing a great job, they stick together, and they’re grown men, and everybody has a family they’re trying to protect, so they’re out there working.”
