Knocking down Roethlisberger among Schlereth’s keys to Broncos win

It’s not good enough to pressure Ben Roethlisberger, says Mark Schlereth.
If the Denver Broncos want to come away with a victory against Pittsburgh on Sunday, they’ve got to knock the Steelers quarterback to the ground.
“You’ve got to get him on the ground. For (Derek) Wolfe, for Von Miller, and for Bradley Chubb, you’ve got to find ways to get Ben Roethlisberger on the ground,” the “Schlereth and Evans” co-host said on Friday.
Pressuring Roethlisberger without getting him on the ground actually hurts the Broncos, Schlereth said.
“Pressuring him will actually hurt you because he’ll slide through there,” Schlereth said. “And once he starts moving around, you stop covering your guy. Then Antonio Brown’s behind you and forget about it.
“So, it’s not good enough to pressure him. You’ve got to get him on the ground.”
Broncos offense must be ‘multiple’
On the offensive side of the ball for the Broncos, Schlereth said on Friday that Denver has to be “multiple,” meaning switching personnel groupings and moving in and out of tempo.
Schlereth said Denver should use some two-minute offense early, then maybe switch it up to running it out of heavy personnel and then perhaps switching to spread.
“If you just line up and let Cameron Heyward or Stephon Tuitt or Bud Dupree or T.J. Watt know what you’re doing and let them play fast, you’re in deep trouble as an offense,” Schlereth said. “You won’t block those guys if you don’t keep them off balance on a constant, play-by-play, down-by-down scenario.”
