Concern after another shaky performance from Broncos QB Keenum

Sep 23, 2018, 5:17 PM

In 15 games last season for the Minnesota Vikings, current Denver Broncos quarterback Case Keenum had just seven interceptions to this 22 touchdown passes.

Through three games as the man under center for the orange and blue, Keenum’s nearly matched his 2017 interception total, throwing five picks to his three touchdown tosses.

Sunday’s pick, which could have gone for six points the opposite way had it not been for a penalty on the return, was the only Broncos turnover but a key one at that.

After the game, Keenum said he believes that he made the right pass, a check down to tight end Jeff Heuerman, and Ravens linebacker Patrick Onwuasor made a great play.

“They fell off in zone. I was trying to check it down and the kid made a good play. I think I was going to the right place with the ball, but I need better fundamentals, better ball to give Jeff a chance, especially in the red zone,” Keenum said.

The interception is just the latest cause for concern with Keenum and turnovers, “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey said Sunday.

“Where has the game manager gone?” Lammey said. “Keenum was supposed to be better than he was last year with Minnesota, where he only had seven interceptions over the 2017 season.”

Keenum lead the league with four interceptions heading into Sunday’s game.

“Against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4 on Monday Night Football, the Broncos will be embarrassed if Keenum continues to struggle with turnovers,” Lammey said.

Fellow 104.3 The Fan host Sandy Clough also expressed concern over Keenum’s play thus far in 2018 after Sunday’s game.

Said Clough: “You begin to wonder about Case Keenum, who threw three weeks has thrown for three touchdowns and five interceptions. He was the NFL leader in passes intercepted coming into this game, and his was the only turnover.”
