Stokley takes issue with Von’s comments on importance of Broncos OTAs

Following team workouts on Tuesday, Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller told the media he likes the teams “grind” and “work,” and he likes the way his teammates and he have come out starting week two of OTAs.
But Miller also preached caution in what Broncos fans might take away from the workouts, that “you really can’t put too much into OTAs.”
“I mean its OTAs. You really can’t put too much into OTAs. Last year in OTAs I thought we were going to win the Super Bowl,” Miller said. “You really can’t put too much into it.”
For a veteran like Miller, “Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley said on Tuesday, these voluntary OTAs might not mean a lot.
However, it’s something Miller shouldn’t express publically, Stokley said.
“Can’t put too much into OTAs, I didn’t like that at all from Von. I didn’t like it,” Stokley said. “He’s supposed to be the leader. He’s supposed to be setting the tone.”
Stokley said he understands where Miller’s coming from, especially in terms of not wanting guys to get injured before the season even starts.
“We’re trying to get everybody out here healthy and into the season,” Miller said. “I would rather guys not practice in OTAs or training camp, but play in the season because that’s where we really need the guys.
“That’s where we’re really keeping score. We’re really not keeping score out here.”
But Stokley said it looks bad for Miller to say OTAs don’t matter when they do to the younger players on the team.
“Young guys, they think this is their Super Bowl right now. They think that’s how much this matter,” Stokley said. “And when you hear Von Miller say it doesn’t matter, then all of a sudden they think, ‘Who cares? If Von Miller doesn’t care, why should I care?’”
