If Chubb’s not ‘great,’ it’s a ‘bad pick’ for the Broncos, says Stokley

With the details of the draft-day trade proposal between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos now public, buyer’s remorse has set in for “Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley.
In a lengthy interview with Buffalo News reporter Jay Skurski, Bills general manager Brandon Beane said he and Broncos GM John Elway had come to an agreement on a deal that would net Buffalo the No. 5-overall pick and an additional third-rounder.
Denver, in return, would have received the No. 12 and No. 22 pick in the first round, and one of Buffalo’s second-round picks.
However, the deal was contingent on Elway’s guy not being available at No. 5, which turned out to be North Carolina State pass rusher Bradley Chubb.
“They valued Bradley Chubb. That’s obvious. They valued him at a high, high level,” Stokley said on Tuesday. “But if he doesn’t live up to that, if he’s not a great player, it’s a bad pick.
“If he’s just a good player, it’s a bad pick. They should have made the trade.”
Stokley pointed to a number of players whom the Broncos could have selected with an additional first-round and second-round pick, including wide receivers D.J. Moore and Calvin Ridley, running back Sony Michel, tackle Isaiah Wynn, and defensive end Marcus Davenport.
“You look at the guys that they could have had, and it will always make you wonder, ‘Should they have made the trade or should they not have?’” Stokley said.
Ideally, Denver would have drafted an offensive player — Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, Saquon Barkley — or traded back, Stokley said. And if they couldn’t trade back, he said, “let’s take Quenton Nelson.”
“They took Bradley Chubb. I hope he works out,” Stokley said. “I hope he’s a great football player for the Denver Broncos.”
