Mar 8, 2018, 8:29 PM

Last season might not be the final time Colorado Rockies fans will Carlos Gonzalez in black and purple.

MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman reports that Cargo and the Rockies are “close” to a deal to return for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Gonzalez had statistically one of his worst seasons is career and the worst of any season in which he played in 100 or more games.

The three-time All-Star hit just .262 with an OPS of .762 while racking up just 14 home runs and 57 RBIs, all figures well below his career 162-game averages.

Cargo became an unrestricted free agent this offseason after signing a seven-year, $80 million deal in 2011, according to Spotrac.com. He earned $20.4 million of that contract in 2017 alone, making him the highest-paid player on the Rockies roster by more than $7 million.
