Vikings the biggest threat to Broncos shot of landing Kirk Cousins?

The Minnesota Vikings, without its star rookie running back and on its backup’s backup at quarterback, came within one game of making Super Bowl history.
Had the Vikings taken down the now-world champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship, they would been the first team to make the Super Bowl in its home city.
And, according to “The Drive” hosts Alfred Williams and DMac, the missing link that puts Minnesota over the edge could be likely free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins.
“The defense, man. The Minnesota Vikings have a fantastic defense,” said Williams. “It is one of the greatest defensive years in NFL history.”
In 2017, Vikings ranked No. 1 in the NFL in terms of yards against (4,415) and points against (252) — just ahead of potential Cousins free-agent suitors the Jacksonville Jaguars and Denver Broncos.
“They have great running backs. They have (Adam) Thielen out there as a star wide receiver,” Williams added. “They have a duo at wide receiver, they have a tight end … man, are you kidding me?”
On Friday, DMac called the Vikings the biggest threat to the Broncos chances of signing Cousins, more than the New York Jets or Arizona Cardinals, and that if they did come calling he wouldn’t know how Cousins could “turn it down.”
“So, the Vikings come calling and they back up the Brinks truck, the Broncos are in big trouble,” DMac said.
Said Williams: “I think it’s going to be Minnesota.”
Cousins fate of becoming a free agent this offseason likely was sealed last week when his team, the Washington Redskins, agreed to trade for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.
The signal-caller told ESPN that he was surprised by the news, but that Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said the club did not want to “draw the process out through March,” when the new league year starts.
“They couldn’t afford to wait so they had to make a move. They wanted to do a deal, but because I wanted to go a little longer it put them in a tough spot. So, they made the trade, Cousins said. “I understood that.”
